Doctors Issue Urgent Warning To People Who Use Tweezers To Remove Nostril Hair

Doctors are giving a serious alert to people who use tweezers to pull out their nose hair.

Even though everyone has them, we usually don’t pay much attention to our nose hairs.

For some people, these things can be really annoying when they show up, and they might even decide to get rid of them.

After finding out that using tweezers on nose hairs is a bad idea, someone exclaimed, “I didn’t know that, and now I feel really grossed out!”

Another person agreed and said, “Wow, I’ve been doing this my whole life and just learned about this!”

“Never pulling them again,” vowed a third.

Another person said, “Wow! I used to pull out my nose hairs all the time. I guess I won’t do that anymore!”

A lot of people might not know this, but the hairs in our nostrils actually have some really important jobs.

Dr. Michael Jacobs, a dermatologist with board certification, explained to HuffPost that nose hairs help catch dust, pollen, and other tiny particles in the air. This means that the air we breathe is somewhat cleaned, which stops allergens from going deeper into our noses.

Dr. Don J. Beasley, who is a certified ear, nose, and throat doctor, explains more by saying, “The nose is a sensitive part of our body that has a lot of blood vessels and mucous membranes.”

When something brushes against the tiny hairs in your nose, like a little bug or something annoying, it makes you sneeze. Sneezing is how your body gets rid of that pesky thing!

Dr. Beasley explains that nose hairs help catch moisture from the air we breathe out, which stops our nasal passages from drying out too much. This is important because it keeps the air we inhale nice and humid.

Dr. Nicole Aaronson, who is a certified ear, nose, and throat doctor, recommends that people should not pull out their nose hairs.

She mentions that she has had to cut open and drain nasal abscesses caused by that kind of plucking.

At the same time, Dr. Erich Voigt, who specializes in ear conditions at NYU, has given an even more alarming alert.

He explains to Business Insider, “Germs are found at the bottom of hair follicles. If the hair follicles get pulled out, the germs can enter, and those infections can be really dangerous.”

The veins that carry blood away from the nose connect to the veins that take blood from the brain. This means that germs can move to the back and cause serious problems like meningitis and abscesses.

Dr. Mehmet Oz, who is the host of The Dr. Oz Show, mentioned (through CNBC) that if you choose in that dangerous area, which he calls the “triangle of death,” there’s a chance that the infection could spread beyond your skin and reach your brain.

When you pull out that hair, a tiny bit of blood can come out from the spot where the hair was pulled from.

So, what exactly is the ominous ‘triangle of death’?

According to the Cleveland Clinic, if you get an infection in the danger triangle area of your face, like from squeezing a pimple or a bad nose piercing, there’s a slight chance it could move to your brain since they are pretty close together.

Sometimes, a face infection can cause a serious condition called septic cavernous sinus thrombosis. This is a bacterial infection that can happen in your face or skull and might lead to some really dangerous health problems.

These days, if septic cavernous sinus thrombosis is diagnosed early, it can usually be treated successfully.

Even though we just shared a pretty scary warning, there’s no need to freak out – these kinds of dangerous infections hardly ever happen.

However, it’s important to be careful and try other ways to remove nose hair.

Professionals suggest that using an electric trimmer or rounded scissors is a safer choice than waxing or plucking. Electric trimmers are a good option because they don’t completely take out nose hairs, making them safer to use.
