Richard Simmons’ Cause Of Death Revealed By His Brother

Richard Simmons, the famous fitness star, passed away on July 13 at the age of 76. He was working on a comeback that would have brought his life story to the stage. On Wednesday, it was reported that Simmons’ brother Lenny got the news about the cause of his death, which was due to multiple factors.

The fitness star became well-known because of his gyms named after himself, called Simmons gyms. These gyms were special because they focused on helping people who hadn’t reached their weight or health goals yet, instead of just helping those who wanted to stay fit. Simmons was often seen on late-night talk shows like the Late Show with David Letterman and The Howard Stern Show. He took a break in the 2010s, but he recently started doing interviews and even working on stage productions again.

Tom Estey, who speaks for Simmons’ family, told People about what Lenny found out. “Today, Lenny, Richard Simmons’ brother, got a call from the LA Coroner’s office,” Estey said on Wednesday. “The Coroner told Lenny that Richard’s death was an accident caused by problems from recent falls and heart disease played a part too.”

He went on to say, “The toxicology report showed no issues except for the medication that Richard was given. The family is really grateful for all the love and support they’ve received during this tough time.” Estey also mentioned, “The family is thankful for all the kindness and support during this difficult time. … The world has really lost a special person.”

Estey had earlier confirmed that Simmons had passed away after his longtime house manager, Teresa Reveles, discovered him unresponsive a day after he turned 76. Reveles mentioned to People in a previous interview, “When I saw him, he looked peaceful.” Before any official news was released, Reveles speculated that Richards might have had a heart attack since his hands were said to be clenched into fists.

“I had a heart attack a few years ago, and my hands did the same,” she added.

Reveles mentioned that Simmons had a fall the day before but chose not to go to the hospital because he didn’t want to celebrate his 76th birthday there. Instead, he suggested, “Let’s wait and go in the morning.” It was also reported that Simmons had been feeling dizzy right before he fell.

Simmons stopped making big public appearances in 2014 and completely disappeared from the public eye by February of that year. In 2016, rumors started swirling that he was being kept hostage in his own house. To clear things up, he gave an interview to The Today Show to deny those claims. However, later that same year, his gym unexpectedly shut down without any notice from him, which led local police to check on him. They reported that he was “perfectly fine” and added that “right now he is doing what he wants to do and it is his business.”

Recently, he made a comeback and took part in an interview with People, which was his first one in a long time, just two days before he passed away. He was also working on a Broadway musical about his own life and was trying to stop a biopic that he didn’t want to be released.

After he passed away, Simmons’ team posted his last social media message that he had prepared. It said, “Let me take you to the moon so we can look at the stars together. Love, Richard.”
