Retired Carpenter Builds ‘damaged’ Furniture That Looks Like It Came Out Of A Disney Movie.

craftsman carpenter is someone who has spent their entire life breathing shavings and sawdust, succeeding with endless patience and skill in mastering a trade as old as it is demanding. Like other trades, the carpenter can give free rein to his imagination to carry out the strangest projects: for his part, he will always have a perfect knowledge of machines and working tools.

Henk Verhoeff is a retired craftsman who has seen a lot in his life. After a successful career as a carpenter, he decided to devote himself to building furniture with a unique style . Henk builds dressers, sideboards and wardrobes that look like something out of a Disney magic movie … or rather, amovie the Tim Burton !

It comes from New Zealand and its dressers have nothing to do with those found at Ikea or other stores of the kind. Their style is so unique that when Henk’s daughter started sharing them online, these very special wooden creations went viral.

Henk creates dressers and wardrobes that appear to be damaged … just on appearance. The false cracks artfully created by the carpenter allow most of this furniture to open up, resulting in a very special and striking effect.

Adding ad hoc lighting makes these items even more magical. It is obvious that not all “cracks” affect the use of this furniture, which perfectly fulfills its function, besides having an attractive appearance.

Henk’s daughter, Linda, after trying to share her father’s works and seeing the success achieved, decided to open a  Facebook page to spread and promote these creations.

Henk likes to make this kind of furniture: “This is weird, broken furniture that you wouldn’t find in a normal furniture store,” the craftsman said. Although his furniture looks a bit like Disney cartoons in appearance, Henk says his work is the result of his brain “playing tricks” on him!

Making these chests of drawers and wardrobes is not easy and sometimes when “the angles don’t match” Henk has to start all over again.

It is not easy to quantify your work in terms of time – each part requires a lot of work, which can be quantified between 80 and 100 hours in total.

The material used is clearly wood, in particular, Henk prefers New Zealand pine, the recycled parts of which he tries to use

Henk transformed his job – a 53-year career! – as a hobby. Not all of his designs are for sale, or at least the carpenter’s original intention was not to sell any pieces. The man specified that he had started making these strange pieces of furniture out of pure passion and pleasure.

However, when he saw the success of his work, Henk decided to sell part of it. By the time he realized he didn’t have enough room in his house, he opened a few auctions on Ebay and was more than happy to satisfy a few lucky buyers.

For now, Henk’s dressers and wardrobes are just decorating his home, but who knows what this brilliant artist has in store for the future!
