Prince George To Be Separated From Prince William When He Turns 12 Next Year Due To Royal Tradition

Prince George’s daily schedule will change a lot once he turns 12.

Being the oldest kid of Prince William and Princess Catherine, George is the next in line for the British throne. He lives a special life, but it’s also very organized and has a lot of rules.

As the future king, 10-year-old George will have to follow different rules than his younger brothers and sisters, especially with a big change happening next year.

Normally, the Royal Family has a rule that when the second person in line to the throne reaches 12 years old, they have to go to royal events on their own, without the current heir. So, after July 22, 2025, George will have to go to events without his dad Prince William, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

When you first look at this rule, it might seem really strict and weird, but there’s actually a good reason for it. The tradition is all about making sure the monarchy stays stable in case something unexpected happens. For example, if a plane carrying someone in line for the throne were to crash, there would be someone else ready to take their spot.

It might seem sad, but the Royal Family needs to get ready for situations like these. Past events show why they need to be careful, like when Prince Philip’s sister Princess Cecilie passed away in a plane crash in 1937, Queen Elizabeth II’s uncle Prince George died in a plane crash in 1942, and her cousin Prince William of Gloucester died in an air crash in 1972.

We don’t know for sure if William and Kate will keep this tradition for their children, but Prince William did when he turned 12. In an interview with OK! Magazine, Graham Laurie, who used to be King Charles’s pilot, mentioned that he flew with all four of them: the Prince, the Princess, Prince William, and Prince Harry, until William turned 12. After that, he had to use a different plane, and they could only fly together when they were younger if they had written permission from Her Majesty. Once William hit 12, he started flying in a 125 from Northolt, while the other three took a 146.

So, if things keep going the same way, Prince George will start going to royal events on his own.
