Neil deGrasse Tyson shut down the Flat Earth theory once and for all with a simple response

Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson had a bit of a mic-drop moment when shut down Flat Earthers

Famous astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson has completely dismissed the Flat Earth theory with his recent comments about the conspiracy.

The well-known TV host showed up in a YouTube video on the StarTalk channel, and when the topic was mentioned, he expressed his anger about the theory, trying to prove it wrong for good.

The Flat Earth theory suggests that the Earth is a flat disk with ice all around it. This is an old idea that has been proven wrong a long time ago.

People who support the idea that the Earth is flat are called ‘Flat Earthers’. They trust what they see and experience rather than depending on scientific facts.

Some people frequently claim that top scientific organizations, like NASA, are intentionally deceiving everyone about the Earth being round.

Tyson can’t believe that people still believe in the theory, saying: “What is odd, is there are people who think Earth is flat but recognise that the Moon is round, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and the sun are all spheres.

“But Earth is flat. Something doesn’t square,” he claimed.

The scientist explained that most things we can see in space are shaped like spheres, and they only sometimes look a bit squished. They believe that the rules of physics and what happens in space ‘favour the sphere’.

He added: “And if something is not a sphere and is a little flattened, you can ask what flattened it, and you find out it’s rotating real fast.

This causes things to become a bit squished. Basically, most things in the universe are either round like a ball or are shaped like a squished ball because of other stuff going on around them.

“We can just see how the universe favours spheres.”

Tyson pointed out that the main issues with free speech are why this theory still exists, but he also put an end to the Flat Earth idea with a strong and straightforward reply when his co-host Chuck Nice mentioned it.

“We have video from space of the rotating, spherical Earth. The Earth is round,” he stated.

Tyson also pointed out problems with the American education system, saying that it fails to help kids learn how to think critically.

He explained that our system has to teach you not just what to learn, but also how to think critically about information, knowledge, and evidence.

“If you don’t have that kind of training you would run around and believe anything.”

The Flat Earth Society sees themselves as a serious group because they believe in promoting new ideas and encouraging people to think freely.

Around since at least 1865, they state on their website: “Flat Earth Theory has grown over the centuries like a wondering sojourner hungry for truth and eager for discovery.

It has evolved from the ideas and guesses made by our ancient ancestors to the knowledge of Victorian thinkers like Dr. Samuel Birley Rowbotham, and it continues to grow today through a global movement of dedicated learners.

As people moved through time gathering information and learning new things, the Flat Earth Theory traveled alongside them, becoming smarter and stronger along the way, they say.
