Jennifer Aniston Is Producing A Remake Of ‘9 To 5’

Jennifer Aniston is looking to create a new version of the classic movie 9 to 5, aiming to introduce it to a younger audience. Her production company, Echo Films, is teaming up with 20th Century Studios to give this 1980 comedy a modern twist. This film is also recognized as one of the 100 Funniest Movies by the American Film Institute.

The original movie “9 to 5” features Jane Fonda, Dolly Parton, and Lily Tomlin as three women who team up to take revenge on their awful boss, Franklin Hart Jr., who is portrayed by Dabney Coleman. He’s described as a “sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot.” This film has become a cult classic over the years. So, what can audiences look forward to in the new version?

According to an initial report from The InSneider, Aniston and her production team brought in Diablo Cody to create the first draft of the new 9 to 5 remake. Cody became famous in 2007 for her first screenplay in the movie Juno, winning both the Academy Award and the BAFTA Award for Best Original Screenplay. She also wrote other films like Jennifer’s Body in 2009 and Tully in 2018.

In 2008, Aniston teamed up with her production partner Kristin Hahn to create Echo Films. Since then, they’ve made a deal with Universal Pictures to produce movies together. Many of their projects include Aniston acting in them, so fans of the original 9 to 5 can look forward to seeing her in a role.

We don’t really know how Aniston and her team will handle the new version of 9 to 5, but changing things up isn’t new for this movie. Believe it or not, the first one was meant to be a serious drama instead of a funny comedy. However, Fonda mentioned that “no matter how we approached it, it felt too preachy and too focused on feminism.”

She continued, “I had been hoping to collaborate with Lily [Tomlin] for a while, and then it hit me and [her producing partner] Bruce that we should turn it into a comedy.” They were also excited to keep it as a “labor film,” but wanted it to feel very “different from the Grapes of Wrath or Salt of the Earth,” Fonda explained.
