Firefighter on scene of crash revealed tragic final words Princess Diana told him

It has been 27 years since she died

A firefighter who was present at the car accident that took Princess Diana’s life 27 years ago shared what he heard her say in her last moments.

On August 31, 1997, a tragic car accident in Paris led to the death of Princess Diana.

This is one of the most well-known events in history because she was in a car racing away from a hotel while being chased by photographers.

The car was being driven by Henri Paul, who was the assistant head of security at the Ritz Paris. Later, it was discovered that he had nearly four times the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

In the car, which was a Mercedes-Benz S 280 Saloon, were Diana’s boyfriend Dodi Fayed and her bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones.

The car entered the Pont de l’Alma tunnel while being chased and ended up crashing, resulting in Paul and Fayed being declared dead at the location.

Diana was declared dead at the hospital later, but Rees-Jones made it through the crash even though he had several serious injuries.

After a terrible accident happened, emergency teams quickly arrived at the location. One of the responders was firefighter Xavier Gourmelon, who was there to hear Princess Diana’s last words.

While talking to Good Morning Britain on the 20th anniversary of her passing, the firefighter shared that he was present to listen to her last words.

He recounted: “She looked at me and said, ‘Oh my God, what’s happened?’

“I tried to calm her down and tell her we’d look after her, and she fell into a coma again.”

Gourmelon mentioned that when they arrived at the scene of the crash, they had no idea who was in the car at the beginning, and he didn’t realize it was Princess Diana talking to him.

He said that she was ‘agitated’ at first before losing consciousness again.

At that moment, she was still trapped in the car wreck, and when they pulled her out, her heart suddenly stopped beating.

He said: “At that moment, the doctor said she was in cardiac arrest. So, we gave her CPR and after 20 seconds, she regained consciousness, and we transferred her to the ambulance.”

The firefighter mentioned that he didn’t notice any injuries on her and believed she would completely recover if she got to the hospital.

Sadly, she passed away in the hospital after experiencing another heart attack that doctors couldn’t bring her back from.

A French investigation found that Henri Paul was responsible for the crash, but a British inquest decided that both Paul and the paparazzi chasing them were guilty of unlawful killing due to careless driving.
